Dr. Kimberly Watson is Reader in Structural Biology (2001) and Head of the Structural Biology Unit in the BioCentre at the University of Reading. After completing a DPhil. in Molecular Biophysics at the University of Oxford (1994) and a two year post-doctoral fellowship under the direction of Professor Dame Louise Johnson, she was awarded a three year Diabetes UK Fellowship (1996) to pursue independent research in structural and computational biology of proteins involved in liver glycogen metabolism. In 1999, she was awarded a Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine Fellowship (until 2005) to continue and extend her work to include pancreatic proteins involved in insulin release.

Dr. Watson is an internationally recognised protein crystallographer with several years experience of protein biochemistry and bioanalytical methods. She has published over 40 papers in leading journals, the majority focusing on protein structure-function studies and protein-ligand analysis. She has an interest in high-throughput (HTP) methods development for structural biology, and has led a UK Department of Trade and Industry mission to Japan and China (2004) to examine emerging HTP technologies and explore the potential for collaboration and technology transfer with the UK.

Dr. Watson has experience working with other Government organisations such as South East Enterprise and Development Agency (SEEDA), and works as a business fellow with the London Technology Network (LTN) and Thames Valley Life Science Network (TVLSN) to promote and assist business opportunities between academia and industry.
