Corinne Kox (Luxembourg)

Corinne Kox
My name is Corinne Kox. I am a PhD student at EMBL in Heidelberg. I come from a village in the wine region of Luxembourg.

Since January 2007 I have been working in the lab of Matthias Hentze/Andreas Kulozik/Martina Muckenthaler in the Molecular Medicine Partnership Unit or MMPU. The research in the MMPU is based on molecular medicine.

How I arrived in research is actually a short story. Because in Luxembourg only very few biological labs exist, I got in touch with research only when I started university in France. What makes it interesting is that every day there is a new goal to achieve: finding something new.

My project is based on leukaemia, or blood cancer. Different types of leukaemia exist. I work on a type which is very common in children. The reasons why this cancer develops are mostly unknown. My job in the next 3 years is to find out a possible reason for the development of this type of blood cancer.

Besides my work in the lab, I play basketball with friends from EMBL and Heidelberg. When I visit my family in Luxembourg, I also spend some time gardening.
