![]() |
MuT is a comprehensive programme which consists of five components, the most prominent one being Mentoring. MuT also offers encouragement and support such as information, coaching and networking. MuT was founded in 1998. There are currently 650 participants. The programme is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Mentoring
Before starting a mentoring relationship, young investigators are advised to attend an orientation course in order to find out about their potential and to develop a personal profile. After that they prepare themselves, under supervision, according to the mentorship guidelines.
The mentee will
- Set a clear goal for her career
- Assume an active role in the mentoring relationship
- Show engagement above average in the field of science
- Use the constructive advice of the mentor
- Maintain a professional relationship with the mentor
Amongst the most popular aims of the mentees are the following:
- Finding out and developing a qualification profile
- Sharing the mentor's experience
- Obtaining support in overcoming structural barriers
- Receiving advice of the construction of informal alliances
- Receiving active support in all questions concerning the career
MuT helps matching with the mentor and prepares the female (or male) mentor for their tasks. These include:
- Giving active and constructive feedback to the mentee
- Supporting the mentee in developing strategies to reach the mentee's goals
- Helping the mentee to recognise her competence and skills and to develop them optimally
- Giving advice on how to pursue a professional career
MuT's also provides detailed Information (i.e. on basic university requirements such as financing and fundraising or management and leadership issues), Counselling and Coaching and Networking, in the form of individual support in career strategies development.
